2023 Hyundai Azera gets completely revamped
Sedans are a dying breed. It is no more a myth but a harsh reality that we face. But the three-box is not going anywhere that easily. A stately sedan is still the ultimate status symbol in multiple global markets. And 2023 Hyundai Azera, known as the Grandeur in South Korea, is the brand’s attempt to throw some action into this market.
Before the arrival of the Genesis brand, Hyundai’s luxury aspirations were all condensed into a trio of sedans. The top dog was the Centennial, or the Equus, followed by Genesis, this time a specific Hyundai model, and the entry point to this range was the Azera. The Azera did offer some bang for the buck at its time, but it just could not catch on. In our region, it sold as a posher and more powerful alternative to the Sonata.
Hyundai Azera Design
The new 2023 Hyundai Azera gets a completely revamped design in typical Hyundai fashion. It combines several modern Hyundai design elements with a hint of nostalgia, harking back to the original Grandeur from 1986. Back then, the Azera/Grandeur was just a rebadged Mitsubishi Debonair, but now, it is all Hyundai.
If the front end looks familiar, you are right. Hyundai takes inspiration from its own Staria minivan for the front fascia of the new Azera. The long LED light bar, headlamps mounted lower on the bumper, and the massive grill are all strikingly similar. The side profile offers flush door handles and, more notably, the quarter-glass design, which is the design element they adapted from the first Grandeur.
The rear end also gets a long light bar, along with concealed exhaust tips. A gloss black bar surrounds the car to bring it all together. Hyundai has not spoken about the wheelbase yet, but the long rear doors suggest there will be plenty of it.
Interior Features
The interior has, no surprises here, more screens. There are two screens for the driver information system and the infotainment system, while a third screen serves as an interface to fiddle with the climate control options. Another notable design element in the interior is the steering wheel design which takes after the first Grandeur. Other interior highlights include ambient lighting and an upholstery combination of eco Nappa leather & anti-bacterial leather.
In typical Hyundai and Kia fashion, more details about the 2023 Hyundai Azera has not been announced yet. We will have to wait until closer to the sedan’s launch to know more.
