First Look: 2025 Kia EV3 details revealed
Kia has released all the details of the new EV3, a subcompact electric SUV set to go on sale in Q4. The EV3 features much of the innovative technology found in the EV9, Kia’s flagship electric SUV.
Not only the tech, it even looks a lot like the EV9. First introduced as a concept last year, the EV3 follows Kia’s new design language for EVs, with the thin daytime running lamps extending into the bonnet. It’s a pretty clean front fascia with some black vents for the bumper design. Since there is no engine, you get a massive 25-litre “frunk” and 460-litre rear load capacity.
The EV3 uses Hyundai’s E-GMP platform, which supports various vehicle sizes and configurations. The same platform is used in the EV5, EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Genesis GV60. The EV3 measures about 4,300 mm long, 1,850 mm wide, 1,560 mm high, and has a wheelbase of 2,680mm.
The 600 km driving range claimed by Kia is quite impressive, but that is for the long-range 81.4 kWh battery. The base model gets a 58.3 kWh battery with a lower range of 410 km.
The electric motor produces about 201 hp and 283 Nm of torque. This powers the EV3 to accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in a claimed 7.5 seconds. The speed tops out at 170 kph.
Like the other Kia EV models, the interior has a familiar story. It gets two 12.3-inch screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment system, a 5-inch panel for the A/C, and a 12-inch AVN display. LG supplies the OS, which can be customized by downloading different themes.
There have been reports that the EV3’s AI assistant has been built off ChatGPT but heavily modified to help users with entertainment, planning trips, and navigation. This technology provides customers with new and innovative ways to directly interact with and control the vehicle’s features.
Kia claims that generative AI comprehends complex contexts through natural language understanding, enabling it to converse naturally with users.
The Kia EV3 is set to launch in Korea in July 2024, followed by its European launch in Q4. It should launch in the UAE and other GCC markets sometime around Q1 of 2025.
