First Look: 2025 Geely Preface in the UAE

This is the latest offering from the Geely Group—the all-new Geely Preface. The 2025 Geely Preface is a C+ segment sedan that fits snugly between, say, a Toyota Corolla and a Honda Accord. It has been a popular model in China and has now arrived in our region.

While the Geely Starray has been in the spotlight lately, one shouldn’t overlook the Geely Preface, which offers a good package, making it a desirable option for those searching for comfort and space.

The exterior looks are more grounded than the Starray, resembling the Monjaro more. The horizontal slits on the front grille and the thin daytime running lights on the bumpers add to the presence.

LED taillights run across the trunk in the rear. The most enticing part is probably the quad exhaust system, which elevates the design. While the standard model gets 17-inch alloy wheels, our top GF trim has 18-inch wheels.

Inside our test drive car, it has a massive 13.2-inch screen to control your infotainment and AC controls. The system is smooth and responsive. It didn’t have the Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, but we are told it will get it soon as an update.

Our car was equipped with the Infinity 12-speaker system, which includes 2 headrest speakers.

The digital dashboard is a 10.2-inch full-colour screen with crisp graphics. Another impressive feature is the CN95 antiviral filter and air quality management system.

While leather seats are standard on all models, our top option, GF trim, had ventilated front seats and lumbar support.

All models also have a panoramic roof that can be opened and has a powered shade.

Like the Starray, the AC vents are quite thin, and our region may need stronger blowers to tackle the summer heat.

Built on the CMA platform, shared with cars like the Volvo XC40, Geely Monjaro, and the Polestar 2, the Preface gets the tried and tested 2.0-litre turbocharged engine paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, delivering 215 hp and 325 Nm of torque.

Geely claims it can go from 0 to 100 kph in a respectable 6.9 seconds. The combined fuel economy numbers indicate 6.8 litres/100 km, which is also quite decent.

The suspension is tuned for comfort and performed well on our mainly highway test drive. The engine noise only creeps up when in full throttle but is fairly quiet when cruising.

The Preface has plenty of safety features. It has front and side airbags for the driver and passenger. Our top trim had the level 2 auto driver assistant system (ADAS), intelligent High Beam Control (IHBC), Highway Assist (HWA), Emergency Lane Keeping Assist (ELKA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Automatic Emergency Brakes (AEB), and Full Speed Range Adaptive Cruise Control (FSRA).

In a market inundated with SUVs, it’s refreshing to see new sedan options from manufacturers offering customers a compelling alternative. The Geely Preface is certainly a very good option for anyone looking for a comfortable and spacious sedan.
