Kia Tasman launched at the Jeddah Motor Show

Kia has officially entered the pickup truck market with the Kia Tasman, a rugged yet sophisticated model designed for those who want a versatile vehicle. This new model, unveiled at the Jeddah Motor Show, marks Kia’s debut in the pickup sector.

Exterior Design

Kia’s design team has created a unique look for the Tasman, steering away from the oversized styling of many pickups. Up front, the truck sports Kia’s distinctive “Tiger Face” grille with vertical lighting elements integrated into the headlamps.

Practicality is top of mind, with features like integrated rear corner steps for easy bed access. A high-mounted stop lamp gives added visibility.

Interior

Kia has taken a minimalist approach, focusing on clean lines and functional features. The interior includes a panoramic digital display, which combines a 12.3-inch infotainment screen with a 5-inch central display, all compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The X-Pro variant takes it a step further with an optional eight-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.

Practical features are abundant, with hidden storage compartments under the rear seats. There is a folding console table for those who need a mobile workspace. Rear-seat passengers also have best-in-segment legroom, and the seats can recline for added comfort on longer journeys.

Kia Tasman Power and Performance

The Kia Tasman has two engine options depending on the market. Middle Eastern buyers can choose between a 2.5-litre petrol engine producing 277 hp and 421 Nm of torque paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. There is also a 2.2-litre diesel with 207 hp and 441 Nm of torque. The petrol version hits 0-100 kph in 8.5 seconds, while the diesel version does it in 10.4 seconds.

For off-road enthusiasts, the Tasman has 2WD and AWD configurations. AWD models include selectable drive modes for specific terrains like Desert, Mud, Snow, and Rock. The X-Pro trim has a 28 mm higher ground clearance (totaling 252 mm) and features an Electronic Locking Differential (e-LD).

Practicality and Customization

The Tasman’s load bed can be configured with various accessories to suit different needs. Kia also offers 13 accessory products, including side steps and beadlock-style wheels, to allow customers to customize the truck according to their lifestyle.

The Tasman is no slouch, with a payload capacity of 1,195 kg and a towing capacity of 3,500 kg. For added convenience, Kia has equipped the load bed with optional features like a power outlet and a sliding cargo floor, making loading and unloading materials more manageable. There’s even a mini table in the bed for campsite or worksite essentials.

Technology and Safety

Kia has loaded the Tasman with its Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite, which includes lane-keeping assistance, blind-spot monitoring, and remote parking assistance. AWD models also come with a “Ground View Monitor”, which displays a view of the ground around the vehicle to help drivers navigate tough terrain.

The Tasman’s Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA 2) system also includes trailer profile functionality, automatically optimizing the vehicle’s driving characteristics when towing. 

Kia Tasman Price and Availability

The Kia Tasman will launch first in Korea in early 2025, with rollouts in Australia, the Middle East, and Africa following shortly after.

Kia’s entry into the pickup segment is ambitious, and the Tasman is a good start. Pricing details are expected closer to the launch.
