The original Ford F-150 SVT Lightning was a “sports truck” last since almost 2 decades ago, bowing out as a legend that was never replaced as the Raptor took over the mantle of top dog. So it was a smart marketing move by Ford to rebirth the F-150 Lightning as a speedy all-electric truck that is going to shake up the segment.
Why stop at five when you can do seven? The folks at Volkswagen must have thought this as they reveal the new VW ID.6 for the Chinese market. The seven-seater crossover comes in as a bigger brother to the five-seater VW ID.4 crossover launched a year ago. The Chinese-only ID.6 is available in two flavours and has all it takes to go global if the market is ripe enough for it, despite the staid looks and cheesy naming system.

BMW, though stagnating for a while after launching the i3 and the i8, is looking for a bigger break into the future car market with its “i” line of cars. Joining this family is the new 2022 BMW i4, a production version of their Concept i4. The new electric four-door coupe will join the iX, iX3 crossovers, i3 and i3S hatchbacks in BMW’s electric lineup.
Porsche likes wagons. Their Panamera Sport Turismo sits in a premium wagon segment seldom explored by other manufacturers. Now, they have decided to break into yet another segment with the wagon version of their EV flagship sedan, the Taycan. This time, they gave it a lift and named it the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo.
The downsizing engine-size trend is rampant in the present automotive industry and AMG partook by junking the glorious 6.2-litre V8 for a stronger-but-odd-sounding twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 in its AMG 63 models. Now AMG is wrapping itself in quite a thick blanket of controversy as it plans to chuck out the V8 altogether in favour of an electrified four-cylinder engine.
