What makes a sports car? Should it have two seats or are five acceptable? Should it have two doors or is four okay? Should it only be rear-wheel-drive or will all-wheel-drive do? While Audi is generally seen as a maker of cookie-cutter sedans, they’ve been breaking conventions for a while now with a few of their niche models, such as the Audi TT Quattro and the Audi S3 Sedan. We drove both of them at the GCC launch event in the UAE.
Audi have taken the wraps off the second generation Audi R8 at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. Three variants have been released – the V10, the V10 Plus and the e-tron. The exterior design is an evolution of the previous generation, while underneath is where most of the changes have taken place.
Audi is generally known as a carmaker that doesn’t take risks. Their design language, their cabin layouts and even their base engines have simply been mildly tweaked versions from generation to generation. But sometimes, they pull a fast one out of the hat. There was the TT. Then there was the R8. And next came the RS 7. And now there are the station-wagon twins — the RS 4 Avant and the RS 6 Avant.

Let’s face it, the Audi Q3 is not a big seller in the GCC. We never even drove one before either. But we went all the way to Munich, Germany to try out the facelifted 2015 model. And to be honest, it’s a pretty nice car. Especially in RS Q3 form.

Audi recently revealed the 2015 Q3 in what appears to be a mild facelift. Along with very minor visual changes, the new Q3 gets slight power upgrades as well.
It’s easy to criticize a carmaker for creating niche after niche, even though nobody asked for them. But the difference is how they go about it. There’s BMW with their 5-Series GT, an absolute disaster. And then there is the Audi A7, an interesting take on the ubiquitous sedan. To top it off, there’s the hotted-up RS7 version, which is on another plane altogether.
