First drive: 2018 Ford Fusion Ecoboost AWD in Canada

Ford made headlines a few months ago when they announced that they’ll stop selling sedans and hatchbacks in the United States due to high costs and low profit margins compared to crossovers and SUVs. The Mustang will survive there too, but everything from the Fiesta to the Taurus will get the axe in a couple of years. It is entirely possible that the same strategy will be followed in the Middle East, as the car line-up doesn’t get much attention any more, and the next-generation Focus will not be launched here (which we drove and liked). Word is that twin-model Mondeo may go the way of the dodo in Europe as well.

First drive: 2015 Ford Fusion Ecoboost in the UAE

The all-new Ford Fusion debuted almost a year ago, and just as it’s catching up with the local car-buying public, Ford suddenly decided to roll in the all-new 2015 Ford Fusion Ecoboost, albeit quietly. So quietly that no one knows it’s here in the UAE. The Fusion Ecoboost had been here two years ago in its prototype stage for some extensive hot-weather testing, when we were offered an exclusive media test-drive that left Editor-in-Chief Mashfique thoroughly impressed. And the final production model that we just drove has only become better.

Total recall: Here are the biggest recalls for US brands in 2014

Car production is an honest process, the Americans would tell you. It’s a simple process, the Japanese will say, and the Germans would go on about how intricate and detailed the process is. But when it comes to after-market assurance, there’s just one word dictating their manufacturing flaws; swift recalls. Recalling faulty vehicles is not unfamiliar in today’s automotive scene. As a matter of fact, millions of vehicles have been recalled in the past and you could see it as a sign that cars are getting safer and manufacturers getting serious about their products.

So we got a 2015 Ford Fusion

So we got a 2015 Ford Fusion

In 2014, the new Ford Fusion was a long-awaited entry into the rather stagnant midsize sedan market that’s dominated by the Japanese. If you remember, we ran a set of articles about the Ford Fusion comparing the midsizer to its rivals in various aspects (and for the record, they were clearly labelled as sponsored by the carmaker, unlike the unmarked paid “reviews” that most other publications run for various brands). We were proud of those stories, largely because we brought some truth to advertising as we had complete control on what to write about, rather than just calling it the best car ever built,

2014 Ford Fusion: We test its Stand-Out driving-safety tech vs Camry, Sonata, Accord & Mazda6

Cars have become a whole lot “smarter” these days. There’s been a whole host of technological developments that has made driving easier as well as safer than ever before. But until recently, such tech was only found in expensive luxury cars. But Ford was one of the first mainstream brands to start offering electronic driving aids and safety features in affordable cars such as the Ford Fusion.

2014 Ford Fusion: We test its Stand-Out MyFord Touch vs Camry, Sonata, Accord & Mazda6

When the Ford SYNC multimedia first debuted over six years ago, it was a huge step forward for in-car tech in general, even if it did have its bugs. We weren’t too keen on using it either, but Ford has improved on it over the years. SYNC is now part of an all-encompassing system called MyFord Touch, and we’re going to see if it’s still at the forefront of in-car infotainment, as we pitch the all-new 2014 Ford Fusion against rivals such as the Toyota Camry, the Hyundai Sonata, the Honda Accord and the Mazda 6.

2014 Ford Fusion: We test its Stand-Out handling vs Toyota Camry & Hyundai Sonata

2014 Ford Fusion: We test its Stand-Out handling vs Toyota Camry & Hyundai Sonata

When we drove the 2014 Ford Fusion last year, it was a prototype being used for hot-weather testing. It had a different engine, and it was roughly put together, but we were ready to put it on our recommended list at once whenever it’d hit showrooms in the future. Fast-forward to the summer of 2014, and the Fusion is finally on sale here. So when we had to test some of the Ford Fusion’s best virtues against rivals from the top two biggest brands in the region, we had no qualms about giving it a go, especially when it came to handling.
