The Ford GT was first released in 2002 and it remained in production till 2006. The GT was known to be a reincarnation of the legendary GT40 Lemans racing car from the 1960’s. The GT is considered to be one of the most iconic supercars of the modern era. A completely new Ford GT was showcased at the 2015 North American Motor Show and now after 2 years, we have some numbers that tell how capable the new GT is.
When we went on a Ford-sponsored trip to the 2016 Detroit Auto Show a couple of weeks ago, we took a detour at some point for a guided tour of the formerly-secret design studio for the upcoming Ford GT supercar.
The new Ford GT has been officially revealed at the 2015 North American International Auto Show. Production is expected to begin late 2016.
While tuners nowadays painstakingly recreate exact replicas of classic cars from the olden days, it is a rare sight to see someone swerve off track to build a classic vehicle directly from their vision as to how it would look in the future. And while the car we are talking about is a Ford GT, what we have here may also look like an adaptation from Shelby’s GR-1 concept from 2005. It’s called the Galpin Ford GTR-1 and it was officially unveiled in Prototype at the Concept Lawn of Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, which is held in Monterey, California.
