Hyundai Santa Fe’s latest generation debuted quite recently, in 2018. Now two years into its life, it would’ve been normal for the crossover to go through a mid-cycle facelift. But this time, Hyundai has decided to give the 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe a complete overhaul with a plethora of changes, including a new platform — or at least that’s what they claim. It must be a modified version of the old one, considering a lot of the car still looks the same.
Even when the global car market is going through a slump, news about recalls is flooding in. Let us have a look at which manufacturers have announced recalls in the past month.
The 2020 Geneva Motor Show was the stage chosen by many brands to unveil their prestigious new offerings. But with the show now cancelled amidst the coronavirus epidemic, most manufacturers are launching their products online. Genesis has chosen to unveil their new sedan, the Genesis G80, through their Instagram handle. At least they didn’t use “influencers.”

Hyundai is on a roll. The Korean brand have wet their feet in every mainstream category there is, with a decent amount of success thanks to good design and great value. However, they’ve been conspicuously absent from the large SUV market. Their largest SUV was the decidedly midsize Hyundai Grand Santa Fe. But now they have the all-new 2020 Palisade — a slightly-bigger midsize SUV.
The midsize segment has always been a bit of a snooze-fest, but the offerings have become more interesting in recent times. Many brands now have great products with good design, luxury features and entertaining handling. But while some are giving up the niche in favour of crossover SUVs, Hyundai has doubled up with a new Sonata that seems to be pulling design ideas from the premium segment into the affordable mainstream. We were invited to South Korea for a week in which we got to take a spin in the all-new 2020 Sonata.
As comparison tests go, this isn’t the most exciting, but it is probably relevant to a whole lot more people than pitting Porsches and Ferraris against McLarens and Lamborghinis yet again (spoiler alert: Porsches and Ferraris are always better). What we have here today are the newest segment of vehicles to sprout from the SUV revolution — the sub-compact crossovers. Not quite SUVs, but not really cars either, the sub-compact crossover gives owners the feeling of driving an SUV while keeping ownership costs within car-like levels. The newest of the bunch is the Honda HR-V, going up against the immensely-successful Nissan Kicks.
