Here is a quick rundown of all the cars displayed at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland, possibly the biggest auto show in Europe. New models include the Lamborghini Aventador, Jaguar XKR-S, Hyundai i40, Ferrari FF and Pagani Huayra. The sizeable number of concepts include the Infiniti Etherea, EDAG Light Car Sharing Concept, Rinspeed Bamboo, Mazda Minagi, Alfa Romeo 4C and the latest iteration of the Toyota FT-86 Concept.
The 2011 Gulf Bike Week is underway at the Dubai Festival City. Set to run from February 10th to the 12th, it is running alongside a big pop concert. Featured are exhibition halls displaying hundreds of motorcycles from various manufacturers, a bike stunt show, and a gathering spot for local bikers to display their personal motorcycles. Harley-Davidson also used the opportunity to announce that they’ve opened a Middle East office in the UAE. The first auto show of the year is also one of the largest in the world. Of course, thanks to the economic downturn, the showing this year is a bit less than in previous years. However, there are a fair number of anticipated models, such as the extended Toyota Prius V, the near-production Honda Civic concept, the production Chevrolet Sonic, the revamped Chrysler 300C, the facelifted Mercedes-Benz C-Class, the topless BMW 6-Series and the achingly-beautiful Volkswagen Passat.

The 2010 edition of the Los Angeles Auto Show is running this week of November, and while among the smaller shows of the season, it is playing host to a number of debuts and concepts, not least of which are the Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG, the Saab 9-4X, the Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet, the Chevrolet Camaro Convertible, the Hyundai Elantra and the Porsche Cayman R.
The 2010 Sharjah Auto Show is running from the 14th till the 18th of October, and this year was a better outing, with new model displays such as the BMW 316i, the Infiniti M, the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Sterling Moss Edition, the Cadillac CTS Coupe, the Mitsubishi ASX, the Nissan Qashqai and the Audi R8 Spyder. Also special were a tuner car section, a classic car section, a remote control car section, a drifting show and an off-road demo. And the Middle East Motor Awards, the first such event to span the region, was concluded with an awards ceremony for the judges as well as the winners.
After the summer break, auto show season is upon us again, with the 2010 Paris Motor Show this October. The massive show is playing host to at least 70 new production cars and concepts, including a big contingent of green cars and ideas. Highlights include an entirely new Lotus line, a new Chevrolet economy range, a Lamborghini concept car, the entire redesigned Ford Focus range, and a couple of scooter concepts from Mini and Smart.
The 2nd DriveArabia Meet took place on Friday the 9th of April, 2010. Again, two of us organised it, and this time 17 people showed up, most of them new people who did not come the first time round, and even an off-duty journalist from an upscale magazine. Again, our little street party was competing with events such as some classic car auction at Times Square Mall and some BMW safety campaign at Creek Park.
The New York International Auto Show may be a secondary automotive event behind Detroit, but it has its own share of product launches during its 2010 edition this April. Introductions included the 2011 versions of the Subaru Impreza WRX STI Sedan, Chevrolet Cruze RS, Scion tC, Kia Optima, Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, Infiniti QX56, Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon, Acura TSX Sport Wagon, Mitsubishi Outlander Sport and a few more.
