Ford teases high-performance Bronco Raptor/Warthog prototype
When Ford launched the Bronco SUV, it was almost certain that a high-performance version was in the works. Dubbed the Ford Bronco Raptor or possibly Warthog, the high-performance Bronco will up the appeal of the SUV, especially with the V8 Jeep Wrangler right around the corner. Ford has now teased us with a lively picture of the upcoming fast Bronco, albeit with heavy camouflage.

The speculations were strong on the name of the new Bronco. Netizens had all reason to believe that it was going to be called the Bronco Raptor. A Linkedin profile of a systems engineer from Ford showed work history on a “2023 Ford Bronco Raptor,” but this was removed soon after. This strengthened the rumour, but a recent trademark filed by Ford with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office points elsewhere. The name “Warthog” was registered by Ford and as per the trademark, the name is meant for “land motor vehicles,” which means that Ford may paste it on any passenger car, truck or SUV.
But what does not need salt in it is the fact that the Bronco Raptor/Warthog is going to be a capable beast. In the teaser as well as numerous spy shots floating around the web, it is clearly noted that the SUV sports a significantly taller ride height. The fenders seem to have extended out quite a bit. The Bronco Raptor/Warthog is still covered under heavy camouflage making it difficult to spot the other differences.
The mill powering the Bronco Raptor/Warthog is a mystery as well. The twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 from the Explorer ST pushing 400 hp is a ready-made option right from the parts bin, making it the most possible candidate. If not, a tuned version of the Bronco’s 2.7-litre turbo V6 may be dropped into the engine bay. It may not sport a V8 at all, unlike the upcoming Jeep Wrangler V8.
The Ford Bronco Raptor/Warthog is a long way off from now. The standard Bronco will start hitting U.S. showroom floors next year so expect the high-performance Bronco to keep us waiting for even longer.
