Alfa Romeo Giulia SWB Zagato is a pretty one-off only for our eyes
Alfa Romeo is a brand that is known to make some pretty cars. Zagato, the legendary Italian coachbuilder, shares the same reputation. So what happens when these firms with a keen eye for design get together? The answer is this, the Alfa Romeo Giulia SWB Zagato coupe.
As the name points out, the parent car for this gorgeous creation is the Alfa Romeo Giulia, the four-door saloon from the brand. For this instance, they have chosen the Quadrifoglio version with that sweet V6. Alfa and Zagato shortened the wheelbase on the sedan to turn it into a two-door coupe.
The styling of the Alfa Romeo Giulia SWB Zagato is reminiscent of nothing else. On closer inspection, you can pick up some special bits, though like the LED headlights from the latest Giulia. The rear design draws inspiration from the Kammback design of the classic Giulia TZ. A large diffuser flank the dual exhaust tips.
Zagato’s influence is visible on the double bubble roof. The bonnet grows vents while the front doors lose handles. Now that operation is handed over a button on the B-pillar. All the Alfa Romeo Giulia SWB Zagato panels are new and crafted out of carbon-fibre.
Being a Quadrifoglio-based vehicle, the Alfa Romeo Giulia SWB Zagato gets the glorious twin-turbo 2.9-litre V6 engine. This mill is in its most powerful GTAm spec, pumping out 533 hp and 600 Nm of torque. But unlike the GTAm, the six-speed manual transmission from the Quadrifoglio is retained.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia SWB Zagato is a one-off created to celebrate the completion of 100 years since Zagato’s first collaboration with Alfa Romeo. The journey started with the 1921 Tip G1 and now reached, under the special request of a German customer, the Alfa Romeo Giulia SWB Zagato.
