Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo Wagon is a reality

Porsche has unveiled the new 2018 Panamera Sport Turismo, sharing the stage at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show with the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid. The Panamera Sport Turismo is a wagon by any other name. Porsche carves out an odd niche, as there exists no other full-size ‘wagons’ with 550 hp in the market. It remains to be seen whether there will be enough customers for a car dreamt of only by teenage bloggers. We have yet to see a single Audi RS6 wagon on the road that isn’t a press test-drive car.

At last year’s Paris Motor Show, Porsche unveiled the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid which churned out 462 hp and 700 Nm from its hybrid powertrain that consisted of a bi-turbo 2.9-litre V6 and an electric motor. Now, Stuttgart has revealed a more powerful version of the hybrid Panamera with 680 hp. Say hello to the 2018 Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid.

And more recently, there was the Panamera, the German carmaker’s first ever sedan which was actually a stretched hatchback. But while derided when launched, all three went on to become bestsellers, much more so than the iconic 911. With all the hoopla over higher petrol prices, there’s a lot of talk about hybrid cars in general. We’ve never had any interest in the Porsche Panamera before, for obvious reasons, but when the Dubai dealership offered us a plug-in hybrid version of the same car, we were all for trying it out, especially since we had the car for the better part of a week to put it through various scenarios.

Porsche will be locally launching the new-generation 911 Turbo, 911 Turbo S, 911 GT3 and 911 50th Anniversary Edition at the 2013 Dubai Motor Show this week, alongside the Panamera S E-Hybrid and the Porsche E-Mobility concept. A 1/8th scale model of the 918 Spyder will also be displayed, according to new Porsche Middle East boss Christer Ekberg at a recent media roundtable.
