Korea’s fast-growing carmaker Kia Motors has announced just announced a growth in sales of 24.4% for August, compared to August last year. Posting growing sales numbers throughout the recession, the news is overshadowed by the fact that Kia’s Vice Chairman Jeong Sung Eun resigned to take responsibility for the recent recall of four models as the South Korean carmaker, to be replaced by new Vice Chairman Hyoung-Keun Lee. Those Koreans sure take their recalls personally.
The U.S. NHTSA safety agency has announced a recall on the 2010 Kia Soul and the 2011 Kia Sorento, apparently to replace interior lighting wiring harnesses.
The Toyota Corolla, quite possibly the most popular car in the world, is being recalled in the U.S. over engine stalling issues. So far, the recall is only for 2005 to 2008 models built in the United States.
There is a lot of hype over the investigation into 1993-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee models, like the one we own, over it catching fire, but only when hit from the rear due its rear-mounted fuel tank. General Motors is voluntarily conducting a safety recall for 2009-2010 models of the Chevrolet Traverse, Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook, all variations of the same platform, to inspect second-row safety belts for damage that in rare cases could make an occupant think the belt is properly latched when it isn’t.
Mazda is recalling over 200,000 Mazda 3 as well as Mazda 5 minivan models from the 2007-2009 model years due to faulty power-assist steering pumps and pipes.
The U.S. NHTSA safety agency has a recall for the 2002-2010 Mercedes-Benz G-Class for what seems to be a non-issue, although as many as 3,522 G-Wagens are being called in for this in the United States.

In the latest line of issues inflicting VW models as they drop out of warranty, the previous-generation Passat is under investigation in the U.S. over reports of engine fires. And for some reason, everybody disses Toyota for floor-mat recalls instead?
